Serbia might get candidate status for European Union membership in 2011 but it is not very likely that it will join the EU before 2018, the WAZ.EUobserver website reports. It is also said that expectations for the rapid integration of Serbia into the EU were unrealistic.

Slobodan Homen, state secretary in the Ministry of Justice, said that the closest associates of ministers, their advisers and cabinet chiefs, work in the shadows and away from any control as they are not obliged to submit their reports on assets.

The leader of the Serbian opposition party New Serbia, Velimir Ilic, who was attacked on Friday, said that the state has no mechanisms to control organised crime. He also said he would give the Serbian police an opportunity to investigate the case and find out who was behind the attack.




The issue of national identity is taken seriously by Balkan people – including the least serious among them.
