12 Detained in Montenegro Drug Bust

Montenegrin police have seized a shipment of 100 kilograms of drugs and detained 12 people suspected of having participated in the smuggling of the illegal goods.

According to Beta news agency, the police ended its several month long investigation of the drug smuggling circuit called Civas on Saturday with actions in Podgorica, Niksic and Herceg Novi.

Those detained are suspected of belonging to a criminal group which smuggled drugs from Albania via Montenegro to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

According to the police statement, the seized drugs, which came from Albania, were packed in 100 nylon vacuum bags and five large cloth sacks.

The group of 12 will face criminal charges and stand before the investigating judge of the High Court in Podgorica, the news agency reports.
