Bosnian Teen Fakes Robbery, Gets Dad Fined
Sarajevo | 08 February 2010 |
After going on a spending spree with his dad's money, a 17-year-old Bosnian boy went to police to report that he had been robbed while driving his family car, forgetting that he did not even have a drivers' license, police said on Monday.
After a brief investigation, police discovered that the boy, who is from the southern town of Citluk, had faked the robbery but really was driving his father's Mercedes.
While the police uncovered the truth fairly quickly, the boy first told an elaborate tale of being robbed by another Mercedes driver. According to the boy's account, the other driver blocked his way, then hit him on the head. The boy claimed that he then fainted and the man took off with the bag of money.
On top of the over 500 euros spent by his reckless son, the boy's father will have to pay a hefty fine for allowing an unauthorized person drive his car, in an unfortunate twist of irony.
The boy is likely to be charged with filing a false report.
