Croatian People's Party Leader to Stay in Politics
| 05 February 2010 |
Radimir Cacic, leader of the Croatian People’s Party, HNS, said he plans to remain party leader despite his involvement is a recent car crash that resulted in two deaths, the Croatian Times reports.
Cacic told local media today that he was ready to go back to work. He said he had needed time to process what had happened and that the tragic accident had been a great shock to him.
Other members of his party assumed he would remain in politics, but are still wondering how the outcome of legal proceedings might affect his position.
On January 8, Cacic hit another car while driving on a highway just outside of Budapest. Two of the three people in the car he hit have died as a result of the accident. Hungarian authorities have said that Cacic did not take proper driving precautions.
Cacic said he never planned to hide the incident and issued a press release about what had happened. He said he is waiting to hear from the courts as to when he will need to appear and remains in contact with his lawyer in Hungary.
