OSLOBODJENJE

Some 870,000 euros from Bosnia’s government funded Refugee Return Fund had been misused in 2009. The money was used for reconstruction projects in non-return areas, including for building of churches and public water supply and sewage systems. The Fund, which is supposed to provide finance for sustainable refugee return, had the total budget of over four million euros.   

NEZAVISNE NOVINE

Nearly a third of some 30,000 non-war invalids in Bosnia’s Croat-Bosniak (Bosnian Muslim) part are likely to lose their benefits after they had been subjected to an independent media review. Between 15,000 and 17,000 non-war invalids are yet to be reviewed. The medical review of war invalids is expected to begin within two months.

DNEVNI AVAZ

Like most other print and electronic media in the country, Dnevni Avaz reported on presidential elections held in Croatia on Sunday. After no candidate won a majority in the first round, Croatians will chose their new president between law professor and classical music composer Ivo Josipovic  backed by the opposition Social Democrats and independent candidate Milan Bandic, a long standing mayor of Zagreb. Josipovic and Bandic won 32.4 and 14.8 percent of votes respectively. The second round will be held on January 10.
