The EU's rule-of-law mission in Kosovo, EULEX has announced the arrest of seven people allegedly related to the human trafficking case of Tisza, in which trafficked people drowned during an illegal crossing on the Hungarian-Serbian border.

“Three people have been arrested in connection with the so-called 'Tisza human trafficking case' on an arrest warrant issued by a EULEX pre-trial judge,” a EULEX press release reads.
“Four other individuals have been put under provisional arrest, authorised by a EULEX Special Prosecutor, also in connection with the Tisza case,'' the statment added.
The arrests were confirmed by Kosovo Police and a press conference was scheduled for Wednesday, but postponed for Thursday, with the participation of Minister of Internal Affairs Zenun Pajaziti.
“The individuals were taken into custody following a series of police operations on Wednesday morning,” the press release stated. The operations took place in the municipalities of Viti, Gjakove, Podujeve, Gjilan and Pristina.
“At this moment, the four suspects put under provisional arrests, authorised by a EULEX Special Prosecutor, are interrogated in view of their possible detention on remand to be ordered by the EULEX pre-trial judge,” the press release concludes.
The 19-strong group tried to cross the Hungary-Serbia river border on 15 October. The drowning occurred when the boat in which they were travelling across the river Tisza foundered. Sixteen persons died out of which 15 are Kosovo Albanians. So far, ten bodies have been found and identified as Kosovo Albanians.
