Macedonia Press Review – December 7
Skopje | 07 December 2009 | Sinisa-Jakov Marusic
DNEVNIK
The chances for a last minute breakthrough in the Athens-Skopje name row are small and Macedonia is unlikely to get a start date for EU accession, the daily says. Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski will be in Brussels on Monday but a new meeting with his Greek counterpart George Papandreou is unlikely since he arrives there on Thursday.
UTRINSKI VESNIK
Gruevski is due to arrive in Brussels Monday. Although no one from the government has confirmed this, Gruevski might try to convince the EU heads to grant Macedonia a start day for EU talks. A fresh meeting with Greece’s Papandreou is also possible.
VREME
There is a big chance that Macedonia will stay without a date for the start of its EU accession talks at Monday's EU Council meeting, due to the unresolved name spat with neighboring Greece.

The issue of national identity is taken seriously by Balkan people – including the least serious among them.
