Serbia's Exit Runs for Best Festival Award
Belgrade | 04 December 2009 | Bojana Barlovac
The winner will be selected according to the number of votes gathered from the audience voting on the website. The first round of voting ends on 10 December and the audience will be informed about the shortlisted festivals that have entered the second round after which the winner will be announced on 13 January.
The Exit music festival was born from a stance against Slobodan Milosevic’s rule in 2000 by a group of students from the town of Novi Sad. In the following years the festival kept presenting big names from the music scene, but also kept bringing burning political and social issues to the forefront.
Its quality was recognised by the UK Festival Awards, which are the annual Oscars of the contemporary music festival industry, that announced Exit a winner of the Best European Festival Award in 2007.
Exit competitors in the run for the Best Major Festival award include: Ireland's Oxegen, Denmark's Roskilde, Hungarian Sziget, UK's 'Isle of Wight' and 'T in the Park'.
Meanwhile, organisers of Exit are preparing their 2010 event and offered some 1,000 tickets for it at last year's prices. Tickets bought by 31 December qualify for the special ticket offer of 80 euros plus booking fee for the four-day event.
