Romania's past has provided rich pickings for film makers
The Romanian feature film "4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days" (reffered also as "432") by director Cristian Mungiu ranks 5th in a ranking of the 10 best films of the decade, compiled by Hollywood Reporter.

The top includes movies that had an impact, that shocked and that challenged audiences, the US-based magazine reads.

The Romanian low-budget film is about a Bucharest college student who goes through horrors to ensure that her friend can have an illegal abortion.

It won the Palme d'Or in 2007. That time, Mungiu also took the award for top director.

In recent years, there has been a renaissance in Romanian cinema. The communist past, the 1989 revolution and the turbulent transition to democracy are dominant themes in the country's new wave of films, with young directors sharing their stories, experiences and memories in a way that is honest, simple and realistic.
