Pristina | 27 November 2009 | By Visar Hapçiu
Hot on the heels of announcements to privatise Kosovo's post and telecoms and build a new power station, Kosovo’s government has revealed its latest money making venture – the auction of five horses and nine donkeys.
A tender published in Kosovo's national newspapers offered the quick sale of the animals on behalf of the Office of the Prime Minister, Hashim Thaci, and the Food and Veterinary Agency.
According to the Food and Veterinary Agency the animals were confiscated by police four months ago as unidentified persons were attempting to smuggle them into Kosovo loaded with coffee.
The agency told Balkan Insight that when the cost of keeping these animals becomes too high, it organises an auction. According to the Food and Veterninary Agency, the agency has held already held two such auctions.
The agency receives animals that have been caught being used for contraband or being smuggled into the country.
On 23 November, 11 cows were confiscated near Mitrovica. Allegedly, the owner of the animals lacked the appropriate documentation

Radovan Karadzic, Sarajevo is not your city, and you have no right to say that it is, just as you do not have the right to say in public, even if it’s in court, that someone has dug up bones around Bosnia and brought them to Srebrenica to make a fake graveyard. This is insulting.
