Serbia's top officials have thanked Kuwait for not recognising Kosovo, and have announced deals aimed at re-establishing economic and military cooperation between the two countries.

Meeting Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser al Mohammed al Ahmed al Sabah in Belgrade on Wednesday, representatives of Serbia and Kuwait signed four agreements on economic and technical cooperation, cooperation in tourism, art and culture and civil aviation.

Serbian President Boris Tadic highlighted the ''significant potential for re-establishing military-economic cooperation between Serbia and Kuwait'', and welcomed ''the return of our construction companies that were successfully operating in Kuwait in the past.''

Al-Sabah also met with his Serbian counterpart Mirko Cvetkovic who told him that Belgrade highly appreciates Kuwait's ''principled'' position on not recognising Kosovo.

In turn, Al-Sabah thanked Serbia in supporting Kuwait during the Iraqi occupation of that country in the early 1990s.

Kuwait or Iraq?

I think this was not said by the Kuwaiti PM - it is not true that Serbia supported Kuwait in conflict with Iraq. Serbia was then headed by Slobodan Milosevic and it sold arms to Iraq of Saddam Hussein. It was openly clear that Serbia was militarily and politically in favour of Iraq. I am sorry btu I have to intervene - otherwise check the history news and analysis of the last decade and recently, if someone thinks I am speaking nonsense.

Kuwait or Iraq?

Sabahudin, it is not unheard of that a country can sell arms to both countries involved in military hostilities. US does it all the time. If Kuwait has any problems with Serbia they are certainly not showing it. If Serbia supporter Iraq I'm sure Kuwait would know about it and things might be different. Selling arms is business not taking sides. Again, ask America about that.

these things are part of serbian propaganda ... we all know that serbia built underground locations for saddam and sold hundreds of tanks and other amunitions to iraq - the very same ones that killed many kuwaitis. http://www.adnkronos.com/AKI/English/Security/?id=1.0.1695739583 http://www.iraqdirectory.com/DisplayNews.aspx?id=5355 and more and more
