Bosnia Press Review - November 20
Sarajevo | 20 November 2009 |The Peace Implementation Council - a group of 55 countries and international organisations that sponsor and direct the peace implementation process in Bosnia – has dismissed the accusations by Bosnia’s Islamic Community against the office of the top international envoy in the country. The Islamic Community previously accused the Deputy High Representative, US diplomat Raffi Gregorian, of conspiring against some of the leading Bosniak (Bosnian Muslim) officials and wrongly accusing them of criminal activity. At the end of its two-day meeting in Sarajevo on Thursday, the PIC had instructed the Islamic Community to lodge a complaint with Bosnia’s ombudsman if they believe that their human rights had been violated.

About a half million people joined a funeral procession for Serbian Orthodox Church Patriarch Pavle in Belgrade on Thursday. Hundreds of Bosnian Serbs traveled to Serbia to pay respect to Pavle who died over the weekend at the age of 95. The streets in most major towns in Bosnia’s Serb-dominated part Republika Srpska were deserted during the live broadcast of the funeral procession. Church bells in Republika Srpska rang every hour in respect of Pavle and Bosnian Serb authorities declared Thursday a non-working day to allow mourners to attend the funeral.
