Croatia Teens use Facebook to Find Killer

Zagreb | 18 November 2009 |

Two teenagers tracked down their friend's killer using Facebook, police in Rijeka have said.

The body of Vitomir Jovicic, 36, was found in the Rjecina River in the city last April and an investigation at the time concluded he had killed himself.

But 17-year-old Nenad Kuljanin and Denij Bakovic, 18, believed he had been killed and set about finding his murderer, the Croatian Times reports.

They set up a group on Facebook to collect more details about Jovicic's death and scores of people logged on to tell them they had seen Jovivic that night and where he had been just before his death.

The pair passed the information on to police who re-opened the case and tracked down a man who has now confessed to throwing Jovicic into the river.

According to Croatian Times police spokesman said today: "This has proved how important ordinary citizens are in partnering police in such cases."
