Later in the afternoon, Tadic will also meet with German Economy Minister Rainer Bruederle. The two are supposed to attend the signing of the memorandum of understanding at the German Economy Ministry, between the Serbian power company Elektroprivreda Srbije and the Germany-based integrated energy conglomerate RWE.
Germany is an important foreign trade partner for Serbia. In September of last year, Serbian Economy Minister Mladjan Dinkic came to an agreement with his German counterpart Micael Glos to cooperate between the railways of the two countries. The German government is reportedly interested in the modernisation of the railway Corridor X, a project that should start next year.
The Serbian president, accompanied by the country's Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic, will also meet with members of the newly formed German government.
According to broadcaster RTS, ruling Christian Democrats in Germany consider Serbia a European country, which has clear perspective of EU accession, but they oppose Serbia's stance on unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo. The Christian Democrats' coalition partners - Liberals - reportedly have a bit more understanding for Serbia's stance on Kosovo issue, although they think that Kosovo should not be the main focus of Serbia's politics.
