Macedonia and Greece are getting further away from reaching a compromise solution to the name issue, the daily reports after the last round of meetings of both sides with the UN mediator Matthew Nimetz in New York last week. The foreign diplomats are the only ones remaining hopeful of a possible breakthrough due to a positive atmosphere.

Macedonia and Greece have entrenched, each on its own position regarding the name talks in the UN after the Greek negotiator Adamantios Vassilakis delivered the new Greek demands to the mediator Matthew Nimetz. Athens sees the name Republic of Northern Macedonia as the only solution to the row.



The issue of national identity is taken seriously by Balkan people – including the least serious among them.
