Italy's Joblessness Forces Croats Home
| 10 November 2009 |
The daily Slobodna Dalmacija reported that most of them had lost their jobs and had no other choice han to return home to Croatia, as quoted by the Croatian Times.
The Italian unemployment rate has risen to 8.9 per cent, and wages have dropped drastically.
Only around 25,000 Croats are working legally in Italy. The rest work illegally, which makes their position far more precarious considering that they have no right to welfare.
The average salary for a Croat in Italy was around 1,000 euros before the financial crisis and has dropped to 500 to 600 euros, the Croatia Times reports.

It's a shame that the internet is a virtual medium, because there are a lot of people out there that I'd like to express my deep feelings of friendship to, and having spent the last two years here in Serbia, I'd like to do it in a truly Serbian way.
