The 13th annual Sarajevo Jazz Festival (www.jazzfest.ba) opened here on Tuesday with a performance by the US singer Kurt Elling, one of the world’s most distinctive male vocalists in jazz today.

With the Laurence Hobgood trio plus saxophonist Ernie Watts, Elling performed the songs from his latest album “Dedicated to You” - a tribute to the 1963 album of ballads by tenor sax legend John Coltrane and baritone singer Johnny Hartman.

The six-day festival, traditionaly held in the first week of November, will offer a number of cutting-edge performances by jazz artists from around the world and from Bosnia at several venues around the city.
Over the years, the festival has presented hundreds of musicians from over 50 countries.
