Arkan Film Gains Momentum

Belgrade | 20 July 2009 |

British actor Vinnie Jones is set to play Serbian paramilitary leader Zeljko Raznatovic Arkan in a movie entitled The Filthy War, The Internet Movie Database, IMDB, reports.

“It's a going to be a hard-hitting, gritty action film and Vinnie has been cast to strike the fear of God into audiences," a source close to the movie crew told the Daily Express. Briton John Irwin will direct.

According to the IMDB, The Filthy War is centered on Bolivian war correspondent Eduardo Flores who organises the defence of a Croatian village against Serb militants.

Zeljko Raznatovic Arkan was the leader of the Serb Volunteer Guard, also known "Arkan’s tigers," which consisted of 10,000 trained fighters acting in support of former Serbian president Slobodan Milosevic’s politics.

Arkan, who was also the husband of popular Serbian folk star Svetlana Ceca Raznatovic, was assassinated in January 2000 before he was put on trial by the United Nations on charges of crimes against humanity.

Rupert Graves is pegged to play the role of Flores in the movie. His previous credits include V For Vendetta, Death At a Funeral, and The Madness Of King George.

Shooting was initially scheduled to take place in Hungary in 2006 but was delayed until this year due to financial problems.
