Kosovo’s senior leaders are scheduled to sign agreements for Kosovo’s membership in the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, IMF, today.

“This is a special sign for the support given to Kosovo,” said Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu, who will be signing the agreement later today along with Prime Minister Hashim Thaci.

Sejdiu said that even countries who have not recognized Kosovo's unilateral declaration of independence of February 2008 have welcomed Kosovo’s membership in both organizations.

Thaci lauded the deals as a "historic moment".

Kosovo filed its request for membership in the world bodies in July 2008, during a donors conference in Brussels.

Last month, the IMF implemented Kosovo’s request for membership with an absolute majority of 96 votes out of 138.
