"Cvetkovic stressed that Serbia’s view was that the UN should continue to be the chief mediator in resolving all matters in the southern Serbian province," read the statement.
Cvetkovic who flew to New York to attend a UN Economic Conference on the global financial crisis’ impact on development, underlined in his informal talks with Ban, the importance of UN’s maintaining an active role in stabilising the situation, which is the only way to guarantee a palatable peace.
In New York, Cvetkovic also held informal meetings with Russian Finance Minister Aleksei Kudrin.

Until lately, Kosovo had a decade of padding to quarantine itself from the rawness, violence and fear that clasped to the coattails of liberation in 1999, infecting the “provisional government” months that followed, carrying their bacillus of internecine murder – of alleged collaborators and of LDK members -- a good two years into the new decade (even longer in Ramush-land). It’s just been ripped away. 1999 is back. In our faces.
