Kosovo’s Prime Minister Hashim Thaci will be opening a facebook account, announced the government’s spokesman Memli Krasniqi on Sunday.

Thaci will be joining over 200 million people who have opened facebook accounts, joining the international social network popularised all over the world.

“The prime minister is expected to have his own official profile in the near future”, said Krasniqi, which according to him will be operated to encourage transparent communication with the citizens of Kosovo.
Other Kosovo politicians already have official accounts opened on facebook such as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Vlora Citaku, Minister of Interior affairs Zenun Pajaziti and government spokesman Memli Krasniqi.

Opposition party members are also hopping on the facebook wagon, as a series of prominent Kosovo figures such as Ibrahim Makolli of the Alliance for a New Kosovo, and Ardian Gjini of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo also have accounts.

The Prime Minister's move to join Facebook indicates the party’s ambition to attract younger supporters, as the Democratic Party of Kosovo began its new campaign on Sunday to gather membership across the country.
