Albania’s Minister of Culture Ylli Pango was fired on Wednesday, after a video showing him allegedly asking sexual favours from young women applying for a job in his ministry was broadcast on TV.

The video and audio broadcast on the investigative program Fisk Fare on Top Channel TV shows Pango setting private meetings with two job applicants. One of these meetings was set in his private villa in Tirana, in which the sacked minister asks a girl to strip her clothes off.

In the recording Pango is overhead repeatedly asking the girl to take her shirt off and come out in a bikini so that he can assess whether she is the right person for the job.

Thirty minutes after the broadcast Prime Minister Sali Berisha issued a statement sacking Pango as culture minister.

“The Prime Minister Berisha has told the minister of culture, youth and sports that he is dismissed since the episode that appeared in the media is unacceptable for the morality and standards of his government," said a statement from the premier's office.

Pango was not reachable for a comment; however in a statement to Berisha he claimed that the video is a “a fabrication by the media”.

If the claims prove true, according to Albania’s penal code, Pango risks up to three years in prison for sexual harassment at work..

This man has been doing this thing for 20 yrs. He used to do this with his students first."You'll get the exam only if you see the ceiling of my bedroom" - was his most famous quote... Why did they make him a minister ?? He even split from her wife because he used to abuse and beat her... Such dirty people in this country I live in...

And now in the KLAN TV interview he blamed the girl and the others for all his "uncommon attitudes" Shame on you "professor".

Shame on the Govt

Start with the lowest position of the democratic party, up to the very top positions that people like Ylli Pango and Sali Berisha hold. Corruption of all sorts. From Pango's sexual experienced employees, Berisha's son in law investment in jala, and his son's participation in Gerdec. Great Stuff!

the tip
2009-03-06 10:29:50
This is the tip of the iceberg.

If it wasn't for the work of Top-channel staff that place would be the scum of the world, everyone is corrupt and trying to benefit from the weak and helpless. There is no government to protect them nor there is rule of low, there its the strong that rules and the weak that suffers. Its gonna be a very long time till we have some decent leaders in our country. Enver Hoxha killed but ruled, these bastards today kill and cannot rule. Pango deserves to be put behind bars for a long time and he should never be let work with students nor anyone else for that matter. I agree with one that said this could be just the tip of the iceberg, god knows how many times he got away with it. If there was justice, he should be investigated fully. Possible victims should be encouraged to come forward under strict identity protection and then he should be judged accordingly. Shame on him, on those who protect him and those who try to benefit politically from such a scandal. They should all expose and distance themselves from such maniacs in their own ranks. I hope there will be more protection and rights for females in our country as we are no longer in the 16th century.

job.

I need a cleaning lady between the age of 15 and 18 she has to look beautiful her pay will be commensurate to her performances and ah yes she'll have to clean the dishes without breaking them. I'm not a minister.

my oh my
2009-03-09 11:39:46
its not only the job positions that they offer that makes the corrupt, but also the 'official' travelling all over the world. these godamn politicians are loosing touch with reality, and that is why i would not like to return to albania even for a holiday, let alone to live there.

2009-03-12 10:37:01
I do think that all the comments written here are true. I thought that 'Pango' was really a good man, especially a very good professor but .. he surprised me with all that videos that i saw. I'm so sorry for the albanians, we are a weak state , we dont have laws , and even the politicians are not a good example. Personally i dont think that i will return and live there again. Italy.

Tim Burton’s latest film, Alice in Wonderland, is easily his most visually stunning yet, showing just how vividly the magic can be put on the big screen. Burton has lined a top-notch cast in front of a green wall allowing him to let his imagination fly, but limiting the actors’ opportunity to give vent to their expressions.
