Love Hurts

05 February 2010 |

Simon Cottrell It's a shame that the internet is a virtual medium, because there are a lot of people out there that I'd like to express my deep feelings of friendship to, and having spent the last two years here in Serbia, I'd like to do it in a truly Serbian way.

Kosovo Opposition 'Secures Recognitions'

Pristina | 10 December 2008 |

A leader of a Kosovo opposition party claims he has had success in securing two more recognitions of Kosovo's independence - from Qatar and the Maldives.

Behgjet Pacolli, the head of the Alliance for a New Kosova, said that during his stay in the United States, he was promised by senior officials from the two states that they would soon recognise Kosovo's independence.

“Kosovo is very soon to be recognized from Qatar and the Maldives and from three other states,” said Pacolli in an interview for the INA news agency.

“We are just waiting for an official move from these two states,” Pacolli said.

Qatar is an oil and gas-rich state located in the Gulf while the Maldives are an island chain popular with tourists lying south of India.

Both countries are predominantly Muslim.

Pristina has been lobbying hard to secure more recognitions from Muslim and Arab states, although the government has come under fire from opposition parties for the slow pace of recognitions.

Kosovo declared independence from Serbia on February 17, 2008. The move was swiftly backed by the United States and its allies.

Until now, Kosovo has been recognised by 53 countries around the world, 22 of which are part of the European Union.

New recognition "WAVE" yow?
2008-12-10 18:56:30
The fact, that Kosovo needs to jubilate these smallest possible steps, like "possibel" recognition from Maledives shows Kosovo is loosing the race by doing nothing! Soon one year since declaration of independence will be over. The initial sympathy for Kosovo will be over and it will be much more difficult to convince some country to recognize Kosovo. Instead of making all possible to gain recognitions in the most precious time, a time when a break-even in favour of independence and recognitions, something that could have started a snowball-effect, Kosovo keeps laying back.

TRUTH...to n.m.
2008-12-10 22:17:58
n.m., Truth and facts are not enough for you. Javier Solana says EULEX deployment works with EU mandate, which has an element that will bring Kosovo closer to european union bloc. Also, the Czech Republic, where that house of US will be placed, Mr Vondra said that next year more and more EU and other countries will recognise Kosovo's independence. Martti Ahtisaari wins a nobel prize for making Kosovo an independent state. etc..etc...etc

kosovo's recognition - does it matter?
2008-12-10 23:06:02
Hi, I would like to say that no where in international law says that a country needs to be recognized by the vast majority of nation states. Well, the most important thing I have managed to find from international law, is that of "recognition by neighbour countries", and we know that Kosovo's neighbors have done so. So, there is no need to worry, even after International Court of Justice delivers its judgement on this issue. It is not Binding!!!!

desperate for recognitions :/
2008-12-11 01:08:27
Kosovo recognized by 'neighboring' counties? Which ones exactly? Serbia? LOOOOOOL. R u kidding me? Or Fyrom and Montenegro - who would do anything what US ask them to do:) These recognitions r the same irrelevant as recognition from Micronesia. U can't be serious, Gaz. :| I agree with N.M. that initial sympathy for Kosovo is lost, now u'll have to deal with 'recognitions' on your own. Big American uncle have better things to do.

A matter of ambition and facts.
2008-12-11 10:30:04
Dear Albanians, if your ambition is to gain some 50 recognitions and overweight these from micro-countries, a life just for biological existance and living conditions you are facing currently (Its the 21st century and you have no power, no water, no streets, no education, no medical treatment, no reputation, no respect, 53 recognitions...) than, congratulations. The war on Kosovo has been almost ten years ago. A 10 years old kid would visit the 5th school year and act as anindividual. Kosovo is almost ten and still has not learned to walk, eat or articulate itself. If there was not Westerners taxpayers money? What would Kosovo do?

TRUTH!!
2008-12-11 17:09:56
"Dear" serbians!!! It may be true that we have to start from scratch...baby steps...etc...etc. EULEX deployment will help. Hence, we are getting somewhere, and serbia's opossition isn't showing a bright future towards EU. While we(Albanians) are showing "a baby step" ahead, serbians are showing two steps behind.

Irreversible process
2008-12-11 18:23:29
Kosovo State is irreversible. I don't know why you guys make additional comments.

who care
2008-12-11 18:45:43
in real who care for that who recognize us or not we are country and we are here thats more important then everything else . thnx for countrys who recognize us and thnx for them who think to do that soon , but for simpathy or somthing like that i think simppathy never exist for sountrys , its kids joke that so i dont wanna write a comment for that. Go go albanianas everyday will be better and future is with us in all aspects. Just our enemmyes are angry now but we anderstand them , poor them.

TRUTH!!!
2008-12-11 21:13:25
The only enemies that Kosova has are serbia and russia. Soon, even the serbs in Kosova will ignore the statements that come from serbia. The important for us (Albanians) is that the number of countries to recognise us an an Independent Country, is growing. I'll just repeat the comments from above grey area person made! Kosovo State is irreversible.

2008-12-11 23:41:40
Kosovo (and Metohija) will NEVER get a place in UN. And you can just kidden yourself with so called "indenpendance", because when EU goes out of Kosovo, you will begging to back to Serbia

Serbia and Russia only???
2008-12-12 09:13:17
Val, stop kidding yourself. How can you possible say something so stupid? More than two thirds of the world are against you. They won't recognize you so how can you possible say it's only Serbia and Russia? You wish. Please count how many countries in the world and how many have recognized you and all will be clear to you.

International law matters - especially to the US
2008-12-12 12:37:42
No way Barak Obama...who wants to change the world's perception of the US...will ignore the finding of the International Court. If they find that the declaration is illegal...the US will have to withdraw it's recognition.

TRUTH!!!
2008-12-12 16:45:37
peggy, would you please make adult comments, rather then childish nonsense you make. Like I said, the only two countries against us are serbia and russia. And, when russians are done taking that oil deal from you all, they will resognise Kosova independence.

Truth according to Val (sorry Monty Python)
2008-12-13 22:48:33
Val, can you count? Please count the number of countries which recognized you and then count the ones which didn't. What is hard about his. Sounds to me you are not in primary school yet since you can't count. Now who is being childish here?

KOSOVO!!!
2008-12-14 18:42:01
IF KOSOVO IS RECOGNIZED BY THE UNITED NATIONS,REPUBLIKA SRPSKA (WHICH IS THE SERBIAN HALF OF BOSNIA) HAS SAID THAT THEY WILL CALL A REFERANDUM OF INDEPENDENCE.THIS MEANS THAT BOSNIA WILL BE PULLED INTO ANOTHER WAR TO KEEP THEM FROM SECEEDING. KOSOVO INDEPENDENCE=WAR IN BOSNIA WE WILL SEE A REPEAT OF THE 1990'S.

No matter "BIG" or "SMALL" country
2008-12-21 01:42:16
It doesn't mean that countries that will recodnise Kosova are small are unnessesary!!!!!Do you know that ONE STATE=ONE VOTE (in UN) thanks for all countries that recodnised Republic of Kosovo as a state and I hope more and more countries will recodnise soon and ONALIC is right Behgjet Pacolli is the best leader

We heard it before
2008-12-25 12:29:24
Yes, we heard it before. None will recognize the Republic of Kosova. "Bulgaria will never recognize you", they did, "Montenegro will never recognize you" they did, Macedonia too, Greece is longing to much but at the end they start acepting that the recognition is inevitable. Do you think that living with a dream bring you the reality? If they at least withdraw from the recognition of Republic of Kosova then there is only one possible solution, ALL ALBANIANS TOGETHER.

....
2008-12-25 17:28:24
as soon as you serbs accept Kosova, the sooner you´ll make progress forward instead of looking back.

its over with
2009-01-06 00:04:49
Kosova Is independent now PERIOD

2009-04-07 23:57:00
It does not seem that Qatar will recognize Kosova's independence. It has bee so long already and nothing has happened yet. Allah help Kosova. Allah help Albanians. May Allah guide Qatar to recognize Kosova's independence. AMEEN

Serbia
2009-11-10 03:27:59
