Macedonians, Serbs 'Share Prejudices'

Xenophobia and nationalism have enflamed the Balkans in the past
Skopje _ Serbs, Macedonians and Bulgarians share similar feelings of greatness about themselves and stereotypes of others, a study called Stereotypes in Our Home and Neighbourhood suggests.
"On the one hand, traditional xenophobia among each
other still persists, and on the other, they have a feeling that something that
belonged to them was taken away. At the same time, they all believe in their
exclusivity and they suffer from values-related confusion,” Serbian sociologist
Djokica Jovanovic told media, local Makfax news agency reports.
Jovanovic who participated in the study, run by the Centre for Sociological
Research at the Faculty of Philosophy in Nis,
Serbia,
concludes that this justifies their worry that regional integration into the
European Union would therefore happen “without a genuine integration and
dialogue among them (people in the region).”
The ongoing study, supported by the Serbian Ministry of Science will continue
in the three countries until 2010, Makfax reported.
