Love Hurts

Simon Cottrell It's a shame that the internet is a virtual medium, because there are a lot of people out there that I'd like to express my deep feelings of friendship to, and having spent the last two years here in Serbia, I'd like to do it in a truly Serbian way.

Barack Obama Pledges Support to Kosovo

Pristina _ US Democrat Presidential candidate Barack Obama has pledged to support Kosovo’s independence and back its economic development.

Recalling his support for Kosovo, the Democrat Senator from Illinois and the party’s candidate for the White House, Obama said he will work in fostering Kosovo’s sovereignty.

“The US will work in helping to build a vibrant democratic society in Kosovo, ensuring equality for all the people living there,” it was reported in Obama for Illyria, an Albanian–American newspaper, published in the United States.

He vowed to help Pristina in its Euro–Atlantic integration and promised to do all he can in developing Kosovo’s infrastructure and energy sectors.

The declaration is the first attempt by Obama to communicate directly with the diaspora Albanian community living in the US.

Media in Pristina report that Obama’s declaration was issued to ease Albanian fears over his attitude towards Belgrade.

It was reported that some Albanians were concerned that Obama did not fully understand developments in the Balkans in the 1990s and the fact that he may also have been influenced by the strong and vocal Serb lobby, prominent in Illinois.

Kosovo declared independence from Serbia on February 17 in a move bitterly opposed by Belgrade.

"...and the fact that he may also have been influenced by the strong and vocal Serb lobby..." So, it's not a Fact that he is influenced. Besides, if the Serb lobby was strong, there probably wouldn't have been a Albanian lobby advocated Kosovo war...

Obama will not be getting Albanian votes in key battleground states...he has turned off Albanians and once they make up their mind, they won't vote for him. Where is the Albanian vote relevant in this race? Michigan! That state is very tight in the polls and has a big Albanian community. He should not have been Belgrade-friendly.

Bad adviser selection - bad self-awareness

I have considered Obama as good alternative to McCain with hope to see some change with US Foreign policy. However when he selected Biden as his running mate based e.g. Biden’s experience about foreign affairs I doubt his judgement. Selecting a man on the record for stating that “all Serbs should be placed in Nazi-style concentration camps” during Senatorial deliberations in 1999 over NATO aggression on Serbia, and that United States ought to conduct a fascist, “Japanese-German style occupation” of Serbia. In Youtube there is a video about Biden's son calling Serbs as "thugs" so the attitude iseems to be throughly family wide. My expectations are now below zero level - unfortunate

Obama had to be 'Belgrade-friendly' because of Biden who is certainly not.
