Kosovo Leader: Belgrade Manipulates Serbs

“We want to strongly reiterate that Kosovo shall not be a place for political experiments,” Sejdiu stressed adding that it cannot be “particularly a place in which power is exercised by illegal parallel structures that are encouraged, created and sponsored by Serbia.”
Sejdiu urged Kosovo Serbs to avoid being “politically manipulated by certain Serb officials, whose intention is the destabilisation of Kosovo and keeping the region in suspension.”
On Saturday, Kosovo Serbs inaugurated their own parliament in the ethnically-divided town of Mitrovica with a declaration that Kosovo is a part of Serbia, defying criticism from the United Nations and ethnic Albanian leaders that the assembly is illegal.
The assembly is created based on the results of the local elections held by Serbia in Kosovo, which Pristina and the UN also said were illegal. The assembly has no executive authority but reflects a deepening ethnic partition of Kosovo since its Albanian majority declared independence from Serbia in February, backed by the West but opposed by Belgrade and its ally Russia.

Pieter Feith, the Head of the International Civilian Office in Kosovo told media after the meeting of the ISG on Monday that the Group regards the Serb parallel assembly as “a step that does not have any legal effect,” and he expressed hope that the new Serbian government will be formed soon and contribute to positive developments.
On the other hand, Sejdiu dismissed again any possibility of holding talks with Belgrade over the political status of Kosovo.
“Kosovo is determined to maintain its state sovereignty and will accept no dialogue with Serbia on the status of Kosovo, which has already been settled,” he maintained.

The issue of national identity is taken seriously by Balkan people – including the least serious among them.
