Sarajevo is not your city, Mr Karadzic, but mine

02 March 2010 | By Nidzara Ahmetasevic

Radovan Karadzic Radovan Karadzic, Sarajevo is not your city, and you have no right to say that it is, just as you do not have the right to say in public, even if it’s in court, that someone has dug up bones around Bosnia and brought them to Srebrenica to make a fake graveyard. This is insulting.

Vatican to Probe Medjugorje Sightings

Sarajevo _ The Vatican announced it will form a commission to investigate the apparitions of the Virgin Mary in Bosnia's southern town of Medjugorje.

Local media quoted on Friday Bosnian Cardinal Vinko Puljic saying that this will be the first Vatican commission ever to visit Medjugorje.

In 1991, a Commission set up by the Bishopric Conference in the former Yugoslavia visited the town, but ruled that nothing out of the ordinary ever took place. The Vatican has never investigated the sightings, nor has it recognized them.

Puljic stressed that no swift decision should be expected as the commission will look separately into the apparitions as well as into the work of local clerics. The process of recognition of apparitions by the Vatican usually takes decades.

On June 1981, six young parishioners from Medjugorje reported seeing a white form with a child in her arms on one of the surrounding hills. They interpreted this and other apparitions they reportedly witnessed as the Holy Mary.

The story spread quickly and Medjugorje became one of the most popular pilgrimage sites in Europe, attracting millions of visitors each year. The development has transformed the remote and poor village into one of the most developed and rich small towns in the country.

Though the Vatican’s lack of recognition has not stopped the pilgrims, it has nearly created a split within the Roman Catholic Church in Bosnia as local priests have continued providing services in the Medjugorje church even when threatened with expulsion from their order.

Mostar’s Bishop Ratko Perić, who is responsible for the southern Bosnia region, still publicly denies any apparitions in Medjugorje.

Supernatural is occuring
2008-06-28 13:56:25
I went to Medjugorje in 1996. I was not even a baptised Christian. I had never previously been witness to anything supernatural, but did so at Medjugorje amongst thousands of other witnesses. There is, without a doubt, the supernatural going on in that place. Many others have also seen them. I saw the miracle of the sun there. Whether this was of the Devil or of God, that I cannot know for certain, but it's either one. THe supernatural does occur and defies ANY natural explanations. I believe it's of God personally because of the fruits produced by Medjugorje. Many conversions/healings and a sense of the holy spirit there. NOt a sense of hysteria, but of peace. Many get the urge to go to confession there and pray. I cannot imagine the Devil findings ways to draw people to Christ and confess their sins. Though, as it's not approved by the church, nobody is obligated to believe. But I think it's wise to wake up and take note, just in case God is using this place to do something special. Nothing replaces the bible or our personal relationship with Christ, especially in the holy eucharist! That is what it's all about.

I have never visited Medjugorje, I found out by Readers Digest then I became interested about this apparition of 6 children, further researched it I became a believer,I changed my life too horrible to mention here and I am now and still a believer. Six children no way they can pretend for over 20 years!! Pray the rosary!!

How sad it is that you did not research the correct information before you published this negative article. I would recomend that you publish the official Vatican statements about Medjugorje. It also is totally incorrect that the Franciscans were threatened with expulsion by their order. Do your Homework!! It is very poor journalism to publish mis-information! With hope that you will correct your greivous mistakes. Joanna

I believe entirely in the events of Medjugorje. The earth is trembling, and Our Lady has come to us as never before on earth to instruct and guide us to Her Son. And as for dissenters, they should be reminded that Pope John Paul II looked favorably on this apparition site. They should also remember that the Holy Spirit does not exactly wait for Church approval.

Medjugorje is true!
2008-06-28 22:16:41
I would like to go on record by saying the Apparitions of Our Lady of Medjugorje are true! I received a physical healing there in 1990 and witnessed a number of supernatural occurences there including the miracle of the sun. These young Croatian people are definitely telling the truth, and Medjugorje is a magnificent place. If the people of the world would only listen to Our Lady's messages and this includes me this world would be a much better place. The world would also be at peace. Praise be to Jesus and Mary for the many graces we have received these past 27 years.

We can be assured if the Blessed Mother is appearing in Medjugorje, the Commission will reveal it. They cannot deny the fruits that have come forth over the years. We have truly been blessed.

Bishop Ratke Peric needs more prayers.

I have been reading many apparitions of Our Lady and Sacred Heart of Jesus in many places and throughout history of Church. The seers have to wait too long to get through Vatican tests and investigations. So we have to pray for Medjugorje seers so they can be more patient and we also have to pray for this local Bishop.

Medjugorje is Real
2008-06-30 14:03:30
I also have been to Medjugorje several times and it has changed my life and brought me back to God and to the Holy Mass. Yes, the beauty of the village has changed over the years, but isn't your life much different than it was in 1981? The true beauty of Medjugorje isn't in the material wealth the world has provided for them, the true beauty is in the peace you feel and take home with you after you've prayed there. In 1990, there was no electricity in this village and the world started coming in droves. Over 30,000,000 people have visited there in the past 27 years. Do you not expect them to improve things and to beautify it? Is your home the same as it was in 1990? If the Vatican did not see something supernatural in the events here, they would have dismissed the entire event many, many years ago. Today, in heaven, the angels are rejoicing over just one person who has converted. In 1990, my first pilgrimage, that was me!

2008-06-30 18:39:03
I heard and read about the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin in Medjugorje in 1988 and that alone turbo-charged my Catholic faith. I was blessed to visit in 1992 for the 11th anniversary and experienced many supernatural signs. I not only believe that the Blessed Virgin Mary is appearing to the visionaries, but that her being here is one of the most significant events in all of Christian history. It is time to hear her messages and live them.

2008-06-30 21:12:29
It is interesting how medjugorje supporters try to circumvent the Church's statements on it, which speaks for itself. One of the signs of authenticity is whether it promotes obedience. I would guarantee, as has occured with other false private revelations, such as garabandal, vasula ryden, even if a direct declaration of a hoax is issued, people would still continue to claim authenticity. This will be a good lessen that we need to listen to the Church and obey the findings.

Medjugorje has spread here to America through a man who wnet there from Chicago, Joseph Reinholtz. He was told by Vicka to find a place where there is a crucifix near a three branched tree. That is at Queen of Heaven cemetery in Hillside, Illinois. I had an experience there on a cold winter day during an outdoor prayer service there where i smelled on three occasions fragrant roses and the last occurence was fragrant oil in the middle of winter with no flowers or palnts around. I have a friend who had the same appearance at this shrine. this alce is in a sense an extension of Medjugorje.

i think the main reason for the vatican to not approve of the apparitions is the fact that the messages from our lady do not single out catholics only.(It's all about we are the only religion.)And I'm sorry but i feel this is wrong. Would Jesus say that only catholics are going to heaven and worthy of Gods Grace? or would he say that all men of all faiths are Gods children. And that we are all worthy of salvation. For the church it's just about the fear of losing human power nothing more.

Pope Benedict and Medjugorge
2008-07-01 22:04:49
I visited Medjugorge last year. It was without a doubt an unbelievable and undeniable experience. You can't listen to other people's comments, even the Vatican's, unless you experience it yourself. It is so personal, and so amazing. On a side note, our current Pope was the Cardinal of Germany during a dark time in Medjugorge, I can't remember the years, but the children were undergoing much scrutinty and shame from the Catholic Church and the Bishops. Someone may know the whole story better, but basically Cardinal Ratzinger called off the "bullying" of the children and of Medjugorge. I found it so interesting that he is today the Pope, given his one-time intervention there, who knows, maybe the Blessed Mother had something to do with that!

The web portal of Radio Vatican reports in a post of July 21, 2007, that Pope Benedict XVI, currently staying in Lorenzago di Cadore until July 27, spent one hour praying in front of an image of Our Lady of Medjugorje. Radio Vatican said that it was a very poignant moment. “The Pope went to the small chapel in the forest and prayed in front of the image of Our Lady of Medjugorje. An interesting story is connected with this image: it was brought in the 80’s and was stolen. After some time, the thief brought it back to the small chapel. The Pope prayed the Rosary and spent about one hour there,” said the Radio Vatican journalist.

God Not Likely to Wait on Vatican for Decades More

People believe what they want to believe. Non-believers are afraid or have just been heavily indoctrinated against the Catholic Church even to the point of hate mongering lies. Pray for them, Russia, & all sinners. What we really need is a New Pentecost for lapsed Christians & lukewarm Christians. I pray that the Vatican will acquire some real FAITH BACKBONE & approve these apparition messages real soon. I think they know a lot more than has been stated, and Pope John Paul II evidently believed & favored these events. Approving these events long after the facts is feeble faith hiding behind "the need for wisdom" & of little value. At this point in history, the Church has had 27 yrs. to study this. I'm sure many Cardinals have gone to Medjugorje incognito. The above article was negatively biased. The 1991 Commission did not state what this article says. It could not affirm or deny the authenticity of events as supernatural. Very Strange as per all medical & psychological tests of the visionaires, and the spiritual fruits. How can the Church deny the good fruits?

it reconverted me
2008-07-16 04:46:31
I was there twice. In '88 and '90. Both times I experienced miracles of smelling roses and seeing he sun. It changed my heart immediately. I was an alcoholic going and could not even touch the stuff when I returned. I didn't even know I was cured until I poured my first bear after coming back. I was repulsed by it. I can even have a drink now and then without any problems of cravings or addictions. I believe Mary is appearing to these visionaries. The messages cal for traditional Catholic teachings. I am a devout practicing Catholic who frequents Confession every two weeks and am a committed adorer at Adoration. It began a lifelong conversion for me that continues. I will honor whatever the VAtican decides, which I believe it will say there is no error being spread here.

JP2 is Guiding this....

I have travels to this incredible village 5 times over the last 10 years. I can;t wait to get back again. It is indeed a magical place. Full of Love and devotion... To Jesus through his Mother Mary. People rush to get to Mass....to adoration... to confession. She the fruits it bears and know that it comes from a good place. JP2 is guiding this latest move from the Vatican because of his great Marian devotion. I wonder why he didn't do something during his reign. I miss him everyday... God Bless you all....

I love the Rosary, the Holy Mass, Eucharistic Adoration has built up my faith and helped me be a better person. This place is full of peace and tranquility everyone is on the same page. One has the feeling of being 'at home' i encourage anyone who can get there to experience this place..iam pleased the Vatican is now taking an interest, its been 27 years now, and its wonderful to be alive during this very Holy time and in the 'company' of Our Blessed Lady Gospa..peace to all

Our Lady is the medator between God and Man...She has given the truth at Lourdes and Fatima...However, the Real truth of the Third Secret which are lived today has not been given out for fear of an apostacy of split in the Church..the evil is smart and cunning and deceives Man even deceives wearing sheep clothing showing it is in the light...Our God warns Mankind to Go Back from its sinful ways and repent and following the church teachings in Fatimas and Lourdes time...Stop diluting yourselves and being arrogant and thinking you are God and are above God to touch and give out The Holy Eucharist ...ONLY THE CONSECRATED HANDS OF A PRIEST CAN!!! REPENT AND FALL ON YOUR KNEES WHEN YOU RECEIVE YOUR GOD !!! THE BANNER OF FAITHFUL AND TRUE SHALL RISE AND STAND IN ALL GLORY WITH JESUS IN THE CLOUDS WITH MICHAEL AT HIS SIDE ! Many of the posts are so lovely. about 8 years ago, I was blessed to see Our Lady here in my Catholic church when Ivan was here. I was so undeserving of such a gift. It took me all these years to figure out why but i believe I have the answer now. Our Lady of Medjugorje is truly from heaven to bring us closer to her son. God Bless

The apparitions are false and yes, I've been there
2008-08-19 14:55:55
I went to Medjugorje, fully believing that the apparitions were true and that I would receive many graces. While there I did smell roses prior to Ivan's apparition and saw the sun pulsate and cast hues of pinks and blues. Then, coming home, everything started to fall apart. I slipped back into many sinful ways of my past. I became very sick as did one of my family members. I became judgemental of others and found myself not wanting to go to Mass. That's just a portion of what happened post-Medjugorje. None of these things happend after I returned from a pilgrimage to Fatima: the graces attained from Fatima are indescribable. The Bible specifically says that false gods will emerge and will perform great wonders. Canon Law also says that we must follow the rulings of the Church. Over and over again, Medjugorje has been rejected by the Bishops of Mostar for a reason: they are false appartions that are not from God or Our Lady. These "appartions" have divided the Church and caused scandal. We have to remember that our Bishops report to the Pope and that they have jurisdiction over the churches in their Diocese. The behavior of the Franciscans of Medjugorje is in clear violation of Canon Law and is therefore, offensive to Our Lady's intentions. I will accept whatever the Vatican ultimaly rules but in the meanwhile, based on personal experience and the testimony of many others, we are dealing with a demonic deception.

medjugorje videos
2008-09-17 09:54:04
I am from Malaysia, a predominantly muslim country. There is no way I can ever get to see the videos currently on sale, even if i ordered them. They would be confiscated by the customs officers at the postal department. I ordered some Garabandal tapes a long time ago. I never received them although I had paid for them. My point is that there are a lot of people in the Middle East and other muslim/communist [China, Vietnam etc) where we thirst for such knowledge. So please do not hold back and allow the release of some footage on your website, which might be the only exposure to Our Lady's apparitions. In Malaysia we can get print material but personal videos are taboo. Don't know why

MEDJUGORJE

I can only speak for myself, in November 1987 I visited Medjugorje in the old Yugoslavia. My CONVERSION is proof enough for me to believe that Medjugorje is of GOD and from God. Mary the mother of Jesus is present there 24/7. I will go to grave thanking God for sending His mother to bring me back to HIM. Praise be Jesus and Mary!!!

Medjugorje
2008-09-20 00:02:28
I went to Medjugorje by chance? I had never heard of the place before. A friend invited me to join their pilgrimage which at the time I could not afford. Later, a plane seat was cancelled, the fare drastically reduced, and the stopover changed from Prague to Austria (a place I had longed to see and never told anyone about). I wrote to a small niece before leaving by e-mail (I still have it) and remarked 'Wouldn't it be great if Our Lady appeared while we were there" - meaning to the Visionaries whereby we might, by osmosis, perhaps receive some blessings in our personal lives. While coming back from a visit to the Cenacolo community, and the Oasis of Peace Chapel, we (group of 10), decided on this bright sunny mid-day, to take a picture of us around a small roadside shrine. Someone remarked and joked on the odd cloud above us. My friend (a nurse) and myself took a picture and video of the cloud and of us. Later that night, after the Rosary, we looked at the day's pictures and if you will go to the Medjugorje web's pictures will see what we have - we call her Our Lady of the Clouds. A woman holding what seems to be an infant. Why we have it, we do not know. What we came to realize after is that God is not far in the great beyond, out of reach, but very near to us and reaching out to us any way he can, through pure love and concern for us, to help us. We also know that Satan is very very real and in Medjugorje too - while there, all witnessed by an entire international congregation of faithful and priests, a child screaming furiously non-stop while the Chalice was raised in Communion and the Mass suspended and distraught parents being escorted from the service to a room at the back of the altar by several priests who started loudly praying togther even as they left. After praying one night, my bed in my single room, was bodily lifted and hit against the wall (where there was no one and nothing to cause it). I sprinkled Holy Water around the room, and left the light on each night for the entire trip. Satan is very much in the picture there too and the battle for souls, as at all Holy Shrines is great. To return to a previous lifestyle that is detrimental to one's eternal life is one's own choice, and not God's influence. Sister Faustina wrote that the souls that cause Jesus the most pain are the lukewarm ones. Pope John Paul II did not reject the site, and I will strictly adhere to what the Vatican decides. Make no mistake though, Satan also has access to the Vatican. Since my trip, I have come to know that every day is a struggle against evil in whatever form it takes, and I have a long way to go to attain the perfection that God asks from each of us. Keep the faith where ever you go and don't ever forget that God loves each and knows each by name.

I had not went to confession in nearly l7 years for I did not believe in it. When I arrived in Medjugorje I had such and urge to go. That was 18 years ago, and have not missed one time in going to confession once a month since, plus starting a rosary group which meets every Sunday nite for the last 18 years. We are so blest to have the grace of Our Lady teaching us and spending time with us, on this earth. Praise you Jesus Christ. Thank you for Medjugorje and sending your Mother to us.

Testing the miraculous
2009-01-05 15:33:14
It's very important to consider every aspect of things like this. There are many people here who cite extraordinary experiences in and around the phenomenon of Medjugorje. However, these do not authenticate it's goodness in any way. There are many forces at work in the world, real and imaged, that can be immensely motivating. They don't necessarily come from God. Additionally, while many people of faith come to Medjugorje and are reassured in their faith, and indeed come to a newly invigorated belief, this does not preclude something other than God being at work. Confusion and the arrogance attached to some religious certainties can be massively inflated by this kind of phenomenon. Certainly, one of the fruits of Medjugorje has been massive unrest between some local clergy and the hierarchy of the church, and certainly much disobedience and anger on the part of certain clergy associated with the 'apparitions'. Finally, it is all too easy to turn to an experience of a phenomenon and trust to that experience without closely considering the facts. We are told by St Paul to test such phenomena, and many of the details particularly of the early days of the apparitions stand very much in contradiction to what we understand of the nature of God and of this kind of phenomenon. Of course, the Lord works in mysterious ways, and is entitled to do so, but he does not work in ways contrary to his own nature, and there is certainly evidence of this from the early apparitions. I do not close my mind entirely to the possibility of this being something of God, but all the evidence points in the opposite direction.

I personally can attest that I am alive because of my visiting Medjugorje and witnessing the supernatural that only comes from GOD...HE EXISTS. I have come to LOVE God as never before and try to receive His Son (Eucharist) every day. My MIRACULOUS conversion is ONE of MANY good fruits of Medjugorje.

Sorry to burst the bubble of so many - but its a racket - plain and simple. Evil people are preying on the vulnerable and making MILLIONS in the process - land deals, smuggling, prostitution and all kinds of racketeering. At least Ratzinger has tried to end the scam once and for all.

No need of any others
2009-04-13 06:13:40
Jesus is the one who we must be worshiping,He does not need help of any others to move hearts and be heard and in the Bible He said that nobody gets to Father but through His hands. He does not need apparitions to prove anything. He is the living proof, He has risen from death, He and only He saved us.

All lying signs and wonders

It would do all Catholics good to watch the video about the so called Messages from Heaven in regards to the apparatitions of this so called Mary. http://www.eternal-productions.org/messages_video.html http://www.raptureforums.com/forum/ecumenism-roman-catholicism/28265-mary-apparitions-messages-speak-jesus-holy-spirit-so-confusing.html There is NO DOUBT in my mind these apparitions are all part of Satan's master plan to create the perfect dillusion in the form of this false mary who has clearly displayed "signs and wonders" to fool those who buy into the RCC traditions. If they held to scripture as their authority, we could point them to Timothy where it is very clear that there is only one mediator between God and man - Jesus Christ. But, as you know, they tend to hold to extra-biblical "experience" and "tradition" over The Word, and therefore its hard to have an impact without lots and lots of prayer. If they had the right idea of who Jesus Christ is and that His work on their behalf is finished and sufficient, they wouldn't be looking so hard for something else to confirm their relationships with God......its very, very unfortunate. But nothing is impossible with God! Put your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Satan can appear as an angel of light and will deceive even the elect. If its extra biblical you must throw it out as it is NOT of God. We are living in the end times and this so called Mary (which is not Mary) has found the RCC to be the perfect pawn to get its followers to think they are following Christ when in reality they are flte following Satan'sdeception. She is the woman spoke of in Revelation who rides the beast. GOD's word is absolute!

If these apparitions are taking very long time to finish then the church will still have to wait for them to finish before a diffinative judgment made to their validity. Second, if these visions are causing divisions and arguments between church members whether they are real or not, it would mean they are not real. because Virgin mary would never want to see church divided
