Sarajevo is not your city, Mr Karadzic, but mine

02 March 2010 | By Nidzara Ahmetasevic

Radovan Karadzic Radovan Karadzic, Sarajevo is not your city, and you have no right to say that it is, just as you do not have the right to say in public, even if it’s in court, that someone has dug up bones around Bosnia and brought them to Srebrenica to make a fake graveyard. This is insulting.

Sofia _ The hardline Bulgarian National Union is planning a ‘Week of Intolerance’ ahead of Saturday’s gay parade due to take place in the capital.

The claim was made by the group’s leader, Boyan Rasate who on Sunday alleged homosexuals in Bulgaria enjoyed strong political protection.

"There are homosexuals in all political parties that one can think of. I have not heard of homosexuals in the Bulgarian Agrarian People's Union," Rasate said.

He said among the events being planned by the group is a round table on how to restrict ‘homosexual ideas’ in society.

Aksiniya Gencheva from the Bulgarian gay organisation ‘Gemini’ told the Sofia News Agency was a political ploy and the Bulgarian National Union’s move to ban gay organisations contradicted the Constitution and the right of free association.

Gencheva believes organizations like the Bulgarian National Union’s are more harmful to society. ‘Gemini’ is expecting far-right activists to hold a protest rally on the day of the planned gay parade.

Boyan Rasate and his National Union gained notoriety in 2007 with their attempt to organise a private national guard with its own uniforms and symbols to protect the majority of the population from what they alleged was a crime wave being led by Roma.

The move was condemned by Roma groups who set up their own guard for protection against the nationalists. Both moves, however, turned out to be short-lived.
