Romania Band Unwelcome In Kosovo Party

Hundreds of Kosovo Albanians have joined a Facebook campaign against the gig of Romanian europop band Morandi, scheduled to take place on the first anniversary of Kosovo’s declaration of independence, because their country has not recognised Kosovo.

Morandi, consisted of Marius Moga and Andrei Stefan Ropcea,  were awarded as Best Romanian Act at the MTV Europe Music Music Awards 2008. Some 1,000 Kosovars joined a group in the virtual community Facebook called “No Morandi on our independence day.”

Kosovo declared independence from Serbia on February 17, 2008, and so far has been recognized my most of the EU member-countries. Romania has said it is its policy not to recognise..

“Romania is lobbying to other countries not to recognize Kosovo. This is why we don’t want them [Morandi] here,” said one of the group members.

A young man, taking down an already ripped Morandi poster, said “they should have banned Romanians from entering Kosovo.”

The Facebook protest aside, tickets for the Tuesday evening concert in Pristina’s “1 Tetori” sports hall appeared to be selling well, the domestic audience keen on any international music acts that make the effort to play in Kosovo as part of their tours.

banning a group for political reasons

Hey Albanians, how is this new thing democracy working for you? You ban a group from a country which doesn't do as you want them to do. Very democratic indeed. This just proves that you are nowhere near ready to have a country. Racists and mob mentalities are not European ways.

Peggy It's our Country and it's hope to us which one to invite or not. You better look @ your business. Tolerance, Tolerance means reciprocal respect. When you will understand the meaning tolerance will be. Fair enough isn't it?

my friend, "Tolerance means reciprocal respect. When you will understand the meaning tolerance will be. Fair enough isn't it? " My friend tolerence does not mean "reciprocal respect".....if your tolerant you are tolerant...its a simple as that.....one is tolerant if he or she....or a community (in this case ethnic Shiptari) accept others and do not discrminate agaisnt them....treat them as you would like to be treated...regardless of disagreements you may have in politics and in other areas.....Jesus said "love thy neighbour" so basically my point is....your tolerance shouldn't depend on what somebody else coming from somewhere else thinks....you shouldn't pick and choose these things simply to what suits you best... if the Romanian band had genuine intentions to perform for Kosovo day regardless of what their country's position is....then the ethnic albanians should demonstrate their tolerance and democratic spirit by allowing them to perform

Romanians speaking about "tolarance" (tolerance). Very amusing indeed. Hearing that from a country that hates his half population because they're Sintis & Romas.

Peggy is aout of touch with reality and cannot possible understand what democracy is. The very act itself is an expression of democracy, yet Peggy cannot fathom such act. We are to conclude that she is only posting slanderous comments.

If they do not recognise Kosovan passports, ...
2009-02-17 20:03:10
I got a painting exibition and I am not allowed to go there, in Romania because they do not recognise our passports! So you can make your own maths! If i can not come to your country why are you allowed to come to mine? Anyways, if they are good enough maybe more Albanian patriots will have fun and so it might be worth having them there! But its surely awkward! and I feel uncofortable! I am sure those guys are fine and they are not to blame for their government's decisions! But still,...!!!! What do you think!

2009-02-17 20:06:39
If Kosovans cant go to Romania then so Romanians should not come to Kosova! Botom line, tell the Romanian government people to fix the passport thing and they tey can come! Thats it!

If they do not recognise Kosovan passports, ...
2009-02-17 20:15:02
Well Romanians can come to Kosova but Kosovans can not go there! because they do not recognise our passports and our country! How fair is this! In the time of Miloshevic I could not go to Romania to display my painting exibition, becacause Milloshevic gov would not give me a passport without duing some sick military service, now the Romanian government says we do not recognise Kosovan nation and I obviously can not go to show Romanians my paintings, but Romanians apparently can come and sing in our party! You do the maths! I think its rubish! In any case if this band is really good, then maybe my Albanian brothers will have fun and so maybe it worth it! but its still unfair! I think if you are a Romanian person you should feel ashamed and maybe through an egg on the Foreign ministry for this! For wat s worth! Bottom line people are jsut people, and want to have fun, why do governments get in the way all the time with their rubish!

well

are you really a country, are you really a democracy? do you believe that you can negotiate with a member of EU like you done with Serbia? funny joke...take care about your poverty and be happy than somebody want to visit your piece of county... not country...

Yep, as suspected. You don't know the meaning of civilized ways. You don't ban a group which took no part in government's decision making from performing. If you cannot see that, then you are truly uncivilized.

Mr Pseudo John: Nations that carry names as such (John), have recognised the kosovan nation! So I am left thinking of you as the usual suspect of wold in sheeps clothing. The typical Serbian radical that has lost power with the fall of Milloshevic and can not control the mass media any more, and is reduced to Pseudo John's Posters! Fair well Mr Pseudo John, and may i express my Happiness at never having to have any such people as you any where close to my country! Shall I remind you of the universal law of contract! YOU MUST SHOW ENOUGH CONSIDERATION (FOR ANY NATION OR INDIVIDUAL) IN ORDER TO REQUEST A RESPONSE. At this point the Romanian nation has failed to provide any consideration, by failing to recognise Kosovan passports, and then under what moral obligation must the Kosovan nation recognise that of the Romanians? NONE!

Would you go and say the same thing to the UN for imposing their embargo on the North Korean people. Remeber any Nation is made by its people! While the principle might be under debate when it comes to Cuba, which has still an Embargo by a democratic nation TH USA, so it is not the case in many other instances! The only way to appeal to this debate is to actually speak to the Kosovan people heart and generosity! They clearly have so far considered this group to take part, now your part in the debate so far adds nothing to your cause (supposing you care about the band rather then abuse the Kosovan people with your nonsense!). o try again and try harder, rather then not try but tell us nonsense!

hmmm...
2009-02-18 02:41:28
as a kosovar albanian, i think it was quite stupid to object the coming of a band from romania, who have nothing to do with , but there will always be those kinds of people... 1000 people on facebook is really not that many. It's sad that this kind of thinking still dominates... I am also referring to Bjorks support for Kosovo's independence here and her inability to perform in the Exit festival last year in Novi Sad... so this is not just some new phenomenon that Albanians started this year.

EU
2009-02-18 04:27:36
The reason why EU Member States can go to Kosovo and other Visa Free Countries is because the EU Negotiates Visa Free Access around the World. Kosovans can go to the EU Member State Romania cause although Kosovo passports are not recognised in the EU Member State they slip the Visa outside the Passport so they can gain entry into Europe. Albania has no chance of wrestling with the EU, the EU is a World Power among other things and will eventually force Kosovo to allow EU Citizens to go their for genuine means. Kosovo has no right to refuse EU Citizens (Romanians). Kosovo will pay the price for this. Kosovo is sitting right next to a Western Power (EU) so you better be careful not to step out of line cause they punish you and you will regret it.

Thank you Peggy for "Civilisation" lecture. It's so nice of you taking so much "care" for us and for other peoples in Balkan. Now take time to get concerned about your business.

I dont like americans too, but I'm very pleased to welcome Madonna in Belgrade. But we are so "barbarian" Serbs or "bad guy" and albanians are so civilized...

To Alex Tom Pryde
2009-02-18 12:36:05
Mr. Pryde. Is not in our policy to stop anyone to come in our Country. Serb Parliamentary Delegation too is been here. But in ethical matter we still keeping an reciprocal attitude regarding others. Of course, we dislike Romanian policy and found a manner to express that. Romanians are lucky to be in EU. How they use their status is question of their Pride and their policy. Regarding the way you are talking for sure you can come here but we dislike you too and you too will be unwelcomed to be here. If you try to come to my house for sure I will kick you out. We got a lot of friends in EU and with them we are not talking about "wrestling" but partnership. We discuss with our friends about our Country but at the end we decide.
