Festival director Labina Mitevska on Thursday confirmed that Alcaine will come to Bitola to receive the award in person.

“Alcain is a great name and it is our great pleasure that after four years of persuasion we succeeded in getting confirmation that he will come and stay in Bitola throughout the whole festival,” Mitevska said.

Alcain has 145 movies in his portfolio and is known for his loyal cooperation with the Spanish director Pedro Almodovar.

He was director of photography in such well known Almodovar movies as “Bad education”, “Women on a verge of a nervous breakdown”, “Tie me up! Time me down!” and others.

In 1994 he was director of photography on “Belle époque”, directed by Fernando Trueba which won an Oscar for best foreign movie.

He also won an award at the Cannes Film Festival for best cinematographer with the movie “The skin that I live in” as well as the European Film Academy award for the movie “Volver”.

He is the winner of five “Goya” awards, the Spanish version of the the Oscars.

The 34th “Manaki Brothers” international cinematographers’ film festival is scheduled for September 14-20.

The festival was founded in memory of Milton and Janaki Manaki, brothers who lived in Bitola and pioneered motion pictures in the Balkans after obtaining a camera in 1905.
