Croatian Serb war crimes suspect Slobodan Mutic has been transferred from the US, the county court in Sisak in central Croatia confirmed on Thursday.

Mutic, who was a soldier of the unrecognised Serb-led Republic of Serbian Krajina statelet in the 1990s, was sent to Croatia on Wednesday.

The US had already sentenced Mutic to two years in prison in January 2016 for lying during his visa approval process in 1999.

Although he stated while obtaining his visa that he had never been arrested, Mutic later admitted that he had been detained on suspicion of killing a married couple, Stjepan and Paula Cindric, in 1992 in the town of Petrinja in central Croatia, which at that time was under Serb control.

The US authorities claim that he, alongside an accomplice, killed the couple because they were Croats, as well as because he suspected that they were members of the ruling party, the Croatian Democratic Union, HDZ.

After murdering the couple, the perpetrators allegedly robbed them.

The Sisak court confirmed that he was put in a remand prison in Sisak and that his case is classified as a war crime against civilians.

He is also wanted for the alleged murder of his former girlfriend Aleksandra Zivkovic, which is not classified as a war crime.
