Sarajevo Talks Fail To Produce New Government

Minimal progress was achieved at the latest round of talks aimed at producing a government in Bosnia and Herzegovina eleven months after the country held its last general election.

Leaders from six of Bosnia's main parliamentary parties held a meeting in Sarajevo yesterday, ten days after similar talks were held in Mostar.

Although agreement was achieved on the subjects of state census, law on military aid, military property and the representation of Roma in government, the most important decision –namely the appointment of a new chairman in the Council of Ministers and a prime minister-was stalled yet again.

Individual political parties failed to reach an agreement on who should hold the two coveted positions and until a consensus is reached, the country continues to lack a new government.

Another meeting has been scheduled for 26 September  and will be held in the Brcko District.
