Disputes over Romania's nomination of EU Commissioner, Tax evasion at 16 per cent last year, OMV Petrom discover new oil reservoir in the Black Sea

Marian Chiriac

Prime Minister Victor Ponta has said that President Traian Băsescu wants to nominate the European Commissioner on Romania’s behalf, even though this is the Government’s task.

Tax evasion in Romania reached some 16 per cent of the GDP in 2013, up from 13.8 per cent in the year before, according to the Fiscal Council.

Oil and gas company OMV Petrom has identified a new oil reservoir in the Black Sea, with a production potential of an estimated 1,500-2,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
