Spelling Mishap Marks Serbian Mufti's Car

As Muamer Zukorlic, chief mufti of the Islamic Community in Serbia, drives around in his shiny BMW, his "mufty" license plates may confuse some.

Web Portal Sandzak News reports that Zukorlic initially wanted the vehicle's plates to read MUFTIJA in Serbian, but new plates only allow five letters.

The mufti then agreed to use the English version of the word, which was wrongly spelled as MUFTY.

Zukorlic's allies do not allow journalists to photograph his car, citing security reasons, but a paparazzo managed to get a shot of the car cruising around Sandzak.

Vanity license plates, in addition to the cost of vehicle registration, run to about 80,000 dinars (800 euros). This is not the first time that mufti has used personal tags for the vehicles that carry him and members of his escort. His last car had the word mufti in Serbian on the plates.
