Croatia’s new Science and Education Minister, Pavo Barisic, has been in hot water ever since his candidacy was proposed to parliament on Wednesday.

Controversies range from allegations of plagiarism, to a scandal over travel expenses, to disputes over a loan he obtained for an apartment - and claims that he held far more classes in various universities than the law permits.

Barisic, 57, has denied the claims of wrongdoing.
