More than 200,000 tourists visited Montenegro during the month of September, 15 per cent more than were recorded in the corresponding period last year, according to official statistics released today.
The number of overnight stay was recorded as 1,143,745, marking a year-on-year increase of 15.3 per cent.
In the first nine months of the 2011, Montenegro attracted 1,304,510 tourist arrivals, an increase of 8.4 per cent over the same period last year.
Tourists in this period made 8,519,132 overnight stays, 10.2 per cent more compared to same period last year. The number of overnight stays from domestic tourists decreased by 2.8%, while the number of foreign tourists increased by 12 per cent.
Russia accounted for the highest proportion of foreign tourists, with 23.5 per cent of international visitors coming from the country. Serbia accounted for 17 per cent, Bosnia and Herzegovina represented 9.8 per cent and Macedonia accounted for 2.8 per cent.
Overnight stays were highest in coastal areas, which drew 97.4 per cent of tourists while mountainous areas attracted 1.2 per cent of visitors.
