Montenegro, EU Sign Deal on Crisis Management

The Agreement between the European Union and Montenegro, which establishes a framework for the participation of Podgorica in EU crisis management operations, was signed in Brussels on Tuesday by Montenegrin Ambassador Aleksandar Andrija Pejovic and Maciej Popowski, deputy secretary general of the European External Action Service.

Popowski said that the signing of the agreement is an important step forward for future Montenegrin involvement in EU operations and underlined that the its implementation will significantly contribute to the deepening and strengthening of cooperation between Montenegro and the EU under the Common Foreign and Security Policy.

Ambassador Pejovic underlined that this legal framework, together with the recently signed agreement between Brussels and Podgorica on security procedures for exchanging and protecting classified information, will significantly improve cooperation between Montenegro and the EU in the area of foreign and security policy.

It will also serve as a basis for Montenegro's involvement in military, police, judicial and other EU missions world-wide, the ambassador explained.
