Posters and fliers warning that "the Judgment Day" is coming on May 21 have cropped up all over Macedonia, prompting police to bring in two persons for questioning.
Macedonian police spokesman Ivo Kotevski told Balkan Insight that the police reacted after people complained that they were disturbed by the flyers. Two people were brought for questioning and have been warned, he said.
The American evangelist Harold Camping, who owns Family Radio, a large Christian broadcasting network in the US, has said that his mathematical calculations, based on the Bible, show that Judgement Day will take place on May 21, followed by the destruction of the Earth five months later.
Camping previously predicted that the end of the world would take place in September 1994.
Several days ago in Skopje, a group of people who said they belonged to Family Radio handed out fliers in the street reading that "the end was nigh" for mankind.
In several other towns, billboards appeared with the message, "May 21 is Judgment Day, cry forcefully toward God".
Both of the persons detained by police are said to be foreign nationals.
They were told that the content of the fliers was disturbing, and asked to stop spreading that particular message.
