Roughly one third of Macedonians who plan to go on summer vacation this year are opting for a tourist resort in their own country, a survey done by local market research agency Gfk Skopje shows.

In a poll that the agency conducted in April on a representative sample of 1000 respondents, 35 percent of the people said they would spend their holiday in domestic resorts.
The Macedonian lake town of Ohrid was singled out as the most desirable tourist destination in the country.
21 per cent of respondents indicated that they were likely to spend their summer vacations in Greece or Turkey.
Out of all respondents a total of 73 per cent answered that they planned to go on holiday this summer. This would be more than last year's figure, when Gfk found out that roughly half of the citizens went on a vacation.
According to Eurobarometer, some 80 per cent of Europeans plan to go on summer vacation this year. This has led some analysts to say that last year’s crisis in the sector will soon be overcome.
Results from the Gfk survey show that 59 per cent of Macedonians who enjoyed their summer holiday last year spent it in Macedonia, and Ohrid was again the most visited tourist resort.
16 per cent of Macedonians last year visited Greece, followed by Montenegro, Albania and Turkey.
The data shows that most of the tourists were younger people, mainly those in their 20s or 30s, and that the number of those above 50 who took vacation is significantly less.
