Macedonian police seized a large number of weapons, ammunition and explosives and arrested at four people in a raid late Thursday in the village of Novo Selo, near the north western Macedonian town of Tetovo, the country's Ministry of Interior confirmed.
A 59-year-old Novo Selo resident and his three sons were arrested.
Police raided his house where they uncovered a large quantity of weapons, machine-guns, mines, explosives and ammunition.
Unnamed sources told the TV station Kanal 5 that there was no shooting during the operation.
So far it is not known whether the arrested were in any way linked with the four killed gunmen who were smuggling arms that police shot on Tuesday night near the village of Radusha.
Local media speculate that the arrested group might have provided back-up to the killed arms smugglers.
This is the third large police operation in the last two weeks after that near the village of Blace where a large weapons stash was discovered and the one in Radusha.
The police bust coincides with the announced visit of the high level delegation from neighbouring Kosovo to Skopje led by the Kosovo police minister Bajram Rexhepi. Rexhepi and his Macedonian host Gordana Jankulovska are expected to discuss the security situation in the region.
Both communities in Kosovo blame politics for the trial of Fatmir Limaj - though from diametrically opposing points of view.
