Macedonian legislators late Wednesday rejected a no confidence motion against Minister of Culture Elizabeta Kanceska Milevska that was tabled by the opposition.
60 legislators in the 120 seat parliament voted against the motion, while 16 voted in favour. The ruling majority, led by the centre-right VMRO DPMNE party, defended the minister, who is a member of the party.
The main opposition party, the Social Democrats, accuse Milevska of covering up shady practices in her Ministry.
They allege that she was involved in shredding tender documents for the massive government financed revamp of the Macedonian capital, dubbed “Skopje 2014”, in order to conceal missing money.
The culture minister has dismissed claims, saying that she cannot be responsible for everything that happens in the Ministry.
"As much as you try to find documents against me, you cannot. There have been no crimes committed during my time as culture minister. Everything has been done in line with the law," Milevska said before the vote.
The police this week said they had filed charges against three employees in the Ministry of Culture in relation to the missing documents. Milevska is not under investigation, nor has she been charged with any wrongdoing.
After the vote opposition lawmakers said Milevska was an illegitimate minister, claiming that criminal charges would be pressed against her in the coming period.

The Macedonian government is into massive campaigns. Sometimes it is to advertise how hard it is working, which we all know it does 24/7, but mostly it is to tell its humble citizens the difference between right and wrong, and most importantly educate Macedonians how to behave, as they don’t seem to fit the high standards of the government.
