China's Zhengzhou Yutong Group has been chosen to supply the Macedonian capital Skopje with 202 retro looking double-decker busses for its public transport system, the Macedonian Transport Ministry reports.

The key element that helped the company get the €41 million deal was its proposed bus design, which fit the request by the Transport Ministry that the busses be similar to those used in Skopje in the 1950s.
Skopje’s public transport, which includes some busses which are more than 30 years old, was deemed by many to be in need of an urgent face-lift.
The government last year said it would completely renew its bus fleet, insisting that most of the new busses should have a 1950s look in order to rekindle the old spirit of the city.
Yutong won the same bid in June last year but after receiving complaints from other bidders concerning procedural flaws, the Ministry annulled the tendering procedure.
In December Ukrainian bus producer LAZ won the tender for supplying 80 single floor busses.
