A solution to the Athens-Skopje “name” spat could be reached as soon as tomorrow if there is necessary political will to do so, Greek Alternate FM Dimitris Droutsas told the daily. A name with a geographic qualifier, as Athens has proposed, would distinguish the Greek province of Macedonia from the neighboring state with the same name and could mean a “win-win” situation for both countries, he noted.

The EU has turned on the red warning light for Macedonian immigrants who aim to move to the EU. Since the fall of the Schengen visa wall in December 2009, thousands of Macedonians have traveled to the EU in the hopes of staying, though visa liberalisation is aimed only at tourism and short term travel.
