Macedonia Press Review ' June 10

Here are the top stories in Macedonia’s main newspapers. Balkan Insight has not verified the reports and cannot vouch for their accuracy.

Slander in the form of portraying people as members of the “Vlach” (business) or other lobbying group as in an attempt to politically discredit them is a dangerous tendency in Macedonia, analysts and politicians warn. The warnings came after the ruling VMRO DPMNE party openly attacked former prime minister and Komercijalna bank head Hari Kostov, calling him the “leader of the clan of the Vlach lobby”.

The country’s exports are plunging while the foreign trade deficit increases, the latest official data show, as local experts predicted.

Macedonia’s new President Georgi Ivanov is slow in patching up the country’s diplomatic network, the daily says. Thirteen empty embassies are still waiting to be filled by new ambassadors.
