Macedonia and Bulgaria close to friendship agreement; Burned central post office was not insured

Macedonia and Bulgaria are expected to soon sign a deal for cooperation and good neighborly relations, the daily reveals. Although Macedonian side remains silent, Bulgaria confirmed it has sent a draft version of the text to Skopje. The deal is expected to be based upon the declaration for friendship that both countries signed back in 1999. This autumn Bulgaria for the first time joined Greece in blocking Macedonian EU progress, arguing that Skopje has not been a good neighbor.

The big fire that devastated Skopje’s main post office is raising a lot of questions about the functioning of this civil service after authorities confirmed that the building was not ensured. Although officially the cause of the blaze is unknown, firefighters present at the scene say that the fire might have started in the cellar and spread through the wiring system. It also remains a mystery why the installed early warning system failed to alert about the fire on time.
