A Macedonian from Australia has tricked the head of the Macedonian Orthodox Church, Archbishop Stefan, into signing a deal for the rental and reconstruction of two church owned hotels, although the man never possessed the €83 million he promised to invest in the project, the daily says, citing sources in the Australian diaspora. According to the daily, the man is already in jail in Australia.

UTRINSKI VESNIK

The state project for the revamping of the capital, dubbed “Skopje 2014”, has mobilized the public. Intentionally or not, the government has stirred up a degree of apathy in the society and shifted public attention from the usual subjects related to the country’s name row with Greece and EU and NATO accession to a debate on how the capital should look in the future.

VREME

Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou is heading to Russia where he is to meet Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. Athens is expected to lobby to gain support for its position in the Greece/Macedonia name row. Moscow recognises Skopje under its constitutional name: Republic of Macedonia.
