Macedonia Press Review ' August 10, 2010

Here are the top stories in Macedonia’s main newspapers. Balkan Insight has not verified the reports and cannot vouch for their accuracy.
DNEVNIK
The small ethnic Albanian political party, National-Democratic Union, NDU, and Izet Mexheti, the mayor of Skopje’s predominantly Albanian municipality of Cair, are staging a celebration on August 12 that could create greater ethnic divide in the country, the daily says.  They want August 12 to be declared a national holiday that should mark the liberation of Skopje by the Albanian forces in 1912 from the Ottoman Empire. Macedonian historians say that Albanians never liberated Skopje.

UTRINSKI VESNIK
Despite the high temperatures and smoke caused by wild fires surrounding the Russian capital of Moscow, Macedonian diplomats remained there, the daily informs. Unlike their colleagues from many other diplomatic offices in Moscow who have fled or temporary closed their premises, Macedonian embassy remain open and in service to the Macedonian citizens.

VREME
Priests from the Macedonian Orthodox Church complain that they have no profit whatsoever from the many occasions where they are called to sanctify the laying of cornerstones of various construction projects done by the government and municipalities. They say that, while they chant free of charge at these occasions, their regular services back at the churches suffer and their believers are forced to wait.
