The global turmoil and the bad business climate in the country have seriously hampered the success of the government project for self-employment through small businesses. After three years and some eight million dollars invested in this project alone, the analysis shows that very few people have been able to make their living this way and that the unemployment rate stayed above a staggering 30 per cent.

UTRINSKI VESNIK

Macedonians seem to be among the least active people in Europe when it comes to sports. Although there are no official studies on this matter, local opinion polls suggest that over 90 per cent of the people from both sexes never or very rarely practice any sporting activity.

VREME

The cloud of volcanic ash approaching from Iceland has paralyzed Macedonia, the daily says. While many flights to and from the country have been canceled, the country’s land transportation capacities have proven inadequately prepared for the increased number of passengers.
