A huge landslide that pulled up trees and rocks yesterday blocked the regional road linking the tourist town of Mavrovo and the western Macedonian town of Debar. Authorities believe that no one was injured when the 500 metre long slide crossed the road. They said it would take days to clear the site.

If Macedonia fails to adopt a quality anti-discrimination law that includes protection against discrimination based on sexual orientation, it might face a lawsuit before the European Court of Human Rights, several members of the European Parliament say.

None of the Macedonian state institutions, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, have reacted to insults from Bulgarian MEP Evgeni Kirilov, who referred to Macedonia as an “artificial creation from WWII”, and to Macedonians as a “xenophobic nation”.
