As part of Macedonia's chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, the country’s parliament on Thursday and Friday will host meetings of the Presidential Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, PACE.
Skopje will also host meetings of the Bureau and the Standing Committee of PACE. The sessions will be attended by MPs of the 47 Council of Europe member states.
The meetings, organised by the Macedonian delegation, will focus on the promotion of the protection of human rights, the reforms in the Council of Europe and promotion of other goals.
Mevlut Çavusoglu, the president of PACE, is expected to attend the gathering. He is also set to meet with members of the Macedonian delegation of the PACE, the country's President Georgi Ivanov, Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski and Parliament Speaker Trajko Veljanovski.
According to the president of the Macedonian delegation in PACE, Aleksandar Nikolovski, the meeting represents the culmination of the previous work of Macedonian delegations, which represented the country between 1993 and 1995 as a special guest, and after 1995 as a permanent member.
Macedonia took over the rotating chairmanship of the Council of Europe's Committee on May 11 and will chair the distinguished organisation for six months before handing over the post to Turkey.
